News

I've just added a new feature (menu item) to the website.

Users now have the ability to e-mail other registered users without having to post their e-mail address on the website.

I am still debating on whether to keep this available to all users or limit it to registered users. Right now everyone can use this function, but I will quickly change it if I hear that users are getting unwanted e-mail from SPAMMERs or other users.

If it becomes a problem, please let me know as soon as possible by clicking on this link. Thanks!

I have had a few questions recently about not being to have access to the forums or the guestbook. Due to the many SPAMMERS out that are out there I must require registration for all users of the website. If I didn't have those restrictions, then there would be all sorts of posts concerning sexual related websites, pharmaceuticals, and many other things that I wouldn't want to see there. As it is, I still get a lot of accounts created for that purpose, but those accounts are quickly deleted.   With new tools available from the website update, all new users are considered unconfirmed until they ask me personally to verify their account. You will not get access until I have heard directly from you. You can contact us by using the Contact Us link here or at the top of the site near About Us.   The registration process is very simple and does not ask for very much information. It is there to protect the website as well as the "real" users. Here are some instructions on how to become a registered user:   On the left hand side of the screen, there is section labeled "Login Form". This is only located on the "Main Page" or the "index page". You will see "Username", "Password", "Forgot your password?", "Forgot your username?" and "Create an account". Please click on where it says "Create an account". That will take you to a screen with five blocks of information to fill out. They are as follows:   Name:Username:E-mail:Password:Verify Password: Once you have entered that information, click on the button "Register". Once you have registered, the system will automatically send an e-mail to the address that you gave us. In that e-mail, there will be a link that will look like the following: Hello (Your Name), Thank you for registering at The FIG Tree News. Your account is created and must be activated before you can use it. To activate the account click on the following link or copy-paste it in your browser:  http://figtreenews.com/...................... After activation you may login to http://figtreenews.com/ using the following username and password: Username: (Your Name) Password: (Your Password) Once you have clicked on that link, your account will be validated and you will have access to most of the items on the website. Unfortunately the On-Line Family Tree is a separate program and currently requires users to go thru another simple registration and approval process. I hope this helps to clear up any misunderstandings about the website. I really look forward to hearing more from everyone soon and seeing if we can help you find some additional information about your Fenton line.

Well, we have finally come of age. The FIG Tree News now has a group listing on Facebook. This will give users an avenue to meet and talk with other users about their research on the Fenton line no matter where in the world you might be researching.

If you click on the "Find US On Facebook" logo, it will take you directly to the Facebook group for The FIG Tree News. You will have to sign up with Facebook to be able to do anything on it.

If you have any questions or suggestions on what we can do to improve the site, please let me know. Have fun and happy Fenton family hunting!

Well, this version of the website has been on-line for just over a year now. We have added forums; a guestbook; converted all of the printed newsletters into on-line articles; added a program to post, edit and share your GEDCOM files on-line; and we have created a group on Facebook for the users. I haven't heard any suggestions from anyone on what they might like to see next from The FIG Tree News. I want to be able to make this a place where researchers of the Fenton family name can come to share information and ideas about genealogy research. I started my research back in the early 1990's, but haven't been able to make any headway since at least 1996. I want to be able to connect some of the Fenton lines and share that information here. I want to make some progress on my own lines, but I also want to help others with their research. I am unable to do that all by my self. I need the help of others. I have already shared all of the information that I have in the printed newsletters that are now on-line.I would love to make this the place that all Fenton researchers want to come. I had been given an idea for a Fenton family reunion some time back, but I really would like to see someone else to organize that (are you out there Margaret Fenton Farrell Woods). I would like to appoint some moderators for the forums and on-line family trees. I would like to see some additional authors added that can post articles on the website. I am unable to do any of that with out some additional help from those researchers who are really interested in the research of the Fenton line. So, what do you guys think? Let me know what you want to see. Send me an e-mail (via the Contact Us or directly), contact me on Facebook. Just let me know what you think! Thanks! We have installed a new program (phpGEDView) that will allow you to edit, view and create reports for your family tree. It will also let you share and edit family tree infromation provided by other users. You will be able to view the files without logging in, but in order to create, edit and share the files you will have to register on this portion of the site again. Maybe, eventually, it will be tied into the main site and you will have the same log-in, but not yet.
